Adult Course - Craft Courses; printing and dyeing

We're very excited to welcome Quanta Cory to the Rural Life Living Museum this summer! She is a Textiles Artist and Creative Workshop Tutor with almost seven years of experience in the fashion and textiles industry. She will be leading the following craft courses on these dates:

Bundle Dye - August 6 2025:

Bundle dyeing is a botanical printing method where plant materials are wrapped in fabric and steamed or boiled to transfer their natural pigments onto the cloth. This process captures the intricate patterns and colours of the plants, resulting in unique, eco-friendly designs. It's a wonderful way to connect with nature and create one-of-a-kind textile art pieces.

Cyanotype Craft Course  -  August 13 2025:

Cyanotype is a photographic printing process that creates striking blue images using sunlight. By applying a light-sensitive chemical mixture to paper or fabric, you can place opaque objects such as leaves, flowers or lace on the surface and expose it to UV light. The areas blocked by the objects remain white, while the exposed areas turn a rich blue. This technique, also known as blueprinting, offers a hands-on way to explore the interplay of light, shadow, and texture.

Natural Dye/Tie Dye - August 20 2025:

Natural dyeing involves using plant based materials, such as berries, onion skins, and leaves, to colour fabrics in a sustainable way. Tie-dyeing, a popular technique within this realm, entails folding, twisting, or pleating fabric and binding it before applying dye, creating vibrant, patterned designs. Both methods celebrate the beauty of natural materials and offer a creative approach to textile art.

Start time 10:00 - Finish time 15:30 approx.

Maximum of eight participants.

Location: Rural Life Living Museum, The Reeds Road, Tilford, Farnham, Surrey, GU10 2DL.

Sorry, no dogs allowed, with the exception of assistance dogs.
